Paralympics

I have been learning to find key words and put them in a sentience, find information and put  it into my own words and reread my report every time I come back to it. I asked lots of questions learning about the Paralympics. My first question was how long has the Paralympics been around? The answer is since 1952. To research about the Paralympics I read lots of books and I was always figuring out the answer to my questions I watched a couple of videos and learnt how to play most
 Paralympic games.

Here is some info about the Paralympic sport

There are around 31 Paralympics sports. 29 are currently Paralympic sports - (winter and summer). 23 of the sports are in the summer Paralympics and 6 are in the winter Paralympics there are many Paralympics sports like; Curling, Athletics, Alpine Skiing. Most of these spots have similar  rules to the version in the Olympics. Boccie, wheelchair Ruby and Goalball require lots of movement. Every country in the world is aiming to be the best at their sport by going to the Olympics or Paralympics and winning a gold medal. In the winter Paralympics most of the sports are played on the snow.

There are lots of sports in the Paralympics like;

Summer sports are Archery,  Athletics,  Boccie, Equestrian, Goalball, Judo, Power lifting, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Tennis,

Winter sports are alpine skiing. Cross country skiing, snowboarding, wheelchair curling, ice sledge hockey.
For my artifact I made a pamphlet with a stand saying read about the Paralympics and it had a teddy bear with a Paralympics T-shirt

Here is my pamphlet

The Paralympics is like the Olympics were you go compete against other athletes to  see who's best at the sport. But at the Paralympics, instead of going to the Olympics you go to the Paralympics  only if you have a  different ability. Say if I had a case  of dwarfism and I went to the Olympics for sprinting my legs would be really small against all the other athletes how am I going to win that? You would go to the Paralympics and race against other athlete that have the same level of ability.
Symbol
The Paralympics symbol is not the same as the Olympic rings
Image result for olympic ring colours
Image result for paralympic logo colours this is the Paralympic symbol

The Paralympic symbol changed 9 years ago because it was too similar to the olympic rings   Image result for paralympic logo colours   this is the old Paralympic symbol. The Paralympic symbol is made up of three agito (agitos are the crescent moon shapes on the symbol) T he meaning for the Paralympics agitos is always moving forward and never giving up.

Medals
The medals in the Olympics and the Paralympics are different the only thing that is the same is the color bronze, silver and gold the Paralympics medals have little steel balls inside so if the Athlete is blind they can here which medal they earned instead of see. The bronze medal has 16 bells silver has 20 and gold has 28 which ever medal makes the loudest sound will tell them which medal they earned. On the medal it says RIO OLYMPICS 2016 under that in braille it says the same braille is when the writing is made out of little dots so the Athlete can feel what it says.

What is Boccia

Boccia was introduced to the Paralympics in 1984. Boccia is played in wheelchairs on a cort around 12.5m by 6m.leather is what the balls are made out of. The balls are about the size of a tennis ball but slightly larger. The balls can be rolled thrown or kicked or released down a ramp. Athletes that can not do any of these things get to wear a headband with something like a stick attached to the headband and you can push the ball down the ramp with the sick. Sometimes they will put the stick in there mouth instead. Only 6 players can play at a time. Each of them has there own special box (in the ground marked with tap.) They have to stay in the box while rolling the ball they have to roll the ball to a special ball called the Jack the Jack is a different color to all the balls it is white. The other balls are red and blue how ever gets the ball closest to the Jack wins. Boccia is a sport where both men and women compete against each other.

Sprinting

To be able to compete in the running race you need to have an amputated leg or a multi sclerosis or dwarfism
sprinting takes lots of practice to be good at it. If the athlete has an amputated leg how do they run? They use a pretend leg that swings along with them every step they take. Some people might like to call it a robot leg and some people have blades  on there legs attached to their feet. They also do sprinting races in wheelchairs the athletes need really strong arms to compete in wheelchairs.

Wheelchair tennis

112 competitors compete in wheelchair tennis. When the other player has the ball and they wahk it towards you it is allowed to bounce 2 times on your side there is a net above the middle of the court when you are whacking the ball it has to go high enough to go over the net if it crashes into the net the other athlete gets a point. If the athlete you are versing hits it to you and you don’t hit it back the other athlete gets a point.

Goalball

Goalball is designed for blind people how can only see a little bit or who can’t see at all. To play goalball there needs to be two teams with 3 players on each side the game is played in a gum stadium on the floor the lines are pretty much the same as the lines on a soccer field. When you have the ball you need to roll it to the opposition's side and try and score a goal in it is simple  to score a goal because the goals go write across the stadium. this game is similar to soccer but instead of using your feet you use your hands. The ball is made out of hard rubber with holes in it, in the holes there are bells so that the other team knows that the ball is coming and they know to stop it from going in the goal.

Curling

Curling is for Athletes that are in wheelchairs. There are 2 teams each team needs to have
A mix of boys and girls. This sport can be played in more than 24 different countries the players hold a stick similar to a hockey stick and they need to whack the ball (in the ground there are marking but instead of hanging up on a wall they are in the ground) and whichever marking it lands on will tell you what score you get.

Who can participate in the para-sport

Only Athletes with eligible health condition can compete in the Para-sport Also these disabilities can participate in the Paralympics they are; spinal cord injuries, amputated limbs, blindness cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities and multiple sclerosis or dwarfism. If you want to go to the Paralympics you need to go get tested to know which sport  you can play in and who can play which sport against who.
